Devotional: Day 154

Greetings,

Listen to the words of this Psalm:

Psalm 86:2 (NKJV) – “Preserve my life, for I am holy; You are my God; Save Your servant who trusts in You!”

“Preserve my life … for I am holy?” What on earth is David, the writer of this psalm, saying? How audacious! This is the same David who committed adultery with Bathsheba and then ordered the death of Uriah, her husband, who happened to be one of David’s closest friends! And, of all people, he is telling God that he is holy!

How could he dare make such a claim, especially since the word translated ‘holy’ means: a saint? It is because he understood God’s merciful nature:

Psalm 86:5 (NKJV) – “For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon you.”

Yes, David sinned grievously, but he turned to God in repentance, rather than away from Him in rebellion. God will also forgive our wrongs if we will ask Him to forgive us and then forsake our sins.

Father, today I ask You to forgive my many failures, whether sins of commission or omission. I ask for Your mercy and thank You for hearing and cleansing me.

Today, I’m worshiping with Sean Carter and “Redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb.”
