Devotional: Day 2364

Greetings,

Have you learned the benefit of just becoming still when the pressures of life become unbearable? Our tendency is to get busy so we can forget about our problems. When our lives are stressed, we go shopping, to the gym, visit with friends, etc.

The trouble with being so busy is that we not only forget our problems but our constant busyness squeezes out thoughts about our Heavenly Father too. God wants us to learn to be still and remain focused on Him. He wants to be the center of our lives. When that happens, we experience genuine joy and peace.

Psalm 46:10-11 (NKJV) – “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! [11] The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah”

“Selah” is thought to be the desert city of Petra located midway on an important caravan trading route. As traders traveled through the vast desert, thirsty, worn, and exhausted, they would stop at Selah and rest before resuming their journey. So Selah means: stop and think about how you’ve made it this far, and then regain your strength for the remainder of the journey.

Be still and know that the Lord, He is God. When you do, He will strengthen you for the rest of life’s journey!

Father, I never want to confuse busyness with achievement. I don’t want to be so busy that I fail to spend time with You. You are the refreshing oasis in the middle of the deserts that we sometimes encounter in life. You are the well of life-giving water that satisfies us like nothing else can. I love you!

Today, I’m worshiping with the Binions and “Hunger.”
