Devotional: Day 2406

Greetings,

In Psalm 143:6 (NKJV), David said: “I spread out my hands to You; My soul longs for You like a thirsty land. Selah.”

Have you ever been thirsty? I mean, really and desperately thirsty? I’ve been in places where fresh water was very limited. Once while traveling in Africa where there was severe drought, we failed to carry enough drinking water. Finally, we arrived at the place we would stay that night. When they brought us something to drink, I don’t believe I’ve ever tasted anything so refreshing and satisfying!

There is also a thirst for spiritual things. David’s soul thirsted for the Living God. That kind of thirst means developing a continual longing in our hearts for more of Him. God is moving across our world and drawing our attention toward Him again. Let’s keep it focused there!

Father, help us refrain from becoming “full” of things that cannot satisfy our hearts. I want to thirst for You, the source of Living Waters. Thank You for saving and satisfying me so completely. Having tasted Your goodness, I want even more of You. My soul cries out to You. Fill me up and at the same time, cause me to thirst for even more.
