Greetings,
What does the Scripture mean when it speaks of the judgments of God?
We read in Isaiah 26:9 (NKJV) – “With my soul I have desired You in the night, Yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early; For when Your judgments are in the earth, The inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.”
The Prophet Isaiah desired God and His “judgments.” Did that mean he was asking God to punish humanity for doing wrong? Oh, no! Not one among us is without some fault or error. I shudder when I hear people ask God to punish others, knowing how much we all deserve God’s wrath.
The word “judgments” refers to God’s divine laws. He designed these laws because in His infinite wisdom, He determined or “judged” what would be the best of all possible paths for us to take. As we learn more about those laws, we understand the difference between righteousness and evil. Those who follow God’s advice and guidance are blessed, while those who ignore and refuse to follow His ways are only choosing a path that will lead to suffering and pain.
Because Christ lives, you and I have no reason to fear God’s wrath or punishment. At Calvary, Jesus paid the price for our disobedience. Like Isaiah, as we learn more about God, it enables us to seek and draw closer to Him. Then we can enjoy even more of His goodness and divine favor upon our lives.
Thank You, Jesus, for paying the terrible debt for our sins and then rising again from the grave. I pray that You will teach us Your divine laws that we may be in alignment with Your plans for our lives. Lead us according to Your judgments.
Today, I’m worshiping with Crowder and “Because He Lives.”
We love you and are praying for you. Be INSPIRED!
