Devotional: Day 285

Greetings,

Here it is Christmas once again, and how we rejoice to know that Christ is our Savior! Indeed the holiday season each year is meant to remind us on a regular basis that God loves us and is committed to our good.

One lesson that is often overlooked in the Christmas story is that we must be willing to submit ourselves to God’s plans and trust Him, before we can receive the greatest good from Him. Notice Mary’s response to the words of the angel when he informed her that she had been chosen to give birth to the Christ.

Luke 1:38 (NKJV) “Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.”

Without a word of debate about what it would cost her, the scorn she would endure or the ridicule that she would suffer, she said, “Let it be to me according to your word.” Yet we know that these thoughts must have weighed heavily upon her mind. After all, she had never known a man.

Too often, we want to figure everything out first, and then submit to God afterwards. God wants us to simply obey and trust that He can be relied upon to turn everything to our good.

Father, this Christmas help us to learn the lesson of Mary and to simply trust You. You have promised to always make things work out for our best. No matter how dire they might appear to be, I know that if I submit to You, ultimately challenges will be turned into blessings. What looks like an insurmountable obstacle at the moment, will become the means of my promotion.
