In Psalm 143:6 (NKJV), David said: “I spread out my hands to You; My soul longs for You like a thirsty land. Selah.”
Have you ever been thirsty? I mean really thirsty? Once in Kenya, after traveling for hours across extremely dry desert terrain, it was difficult to find safe drinking water. Unfortunately, we had failed to bring enough water.
I cannot remember ever being so thirsty. We couldn’t wait to find water to quench our thirst. Finally, we arrived at the place we would stay that night. When they brought us something to drink, I don’t believe I’ve ever tasted anything so refreshing or satisfying!
David’s soul thirsted for the Living God. To develop that kind of thirst requires a continual longing in our soul for more of Him. When we recently had days of isolation and lockdown, our attention was turned toward God. Let’s keep it there!
Father, help us refrain from becoming “full” of things that cannot satisfy and to stay thirsty for You, our source of living waters.
