Devotional: Day 86

Greetings,

Zechariah 1:3 (NKJV) – “Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts: “Return to Me,” says the LORD of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the LORD of hosts.”

Israel was in big trouble! They had turned away from God and their glorious nation and had been reduced to division, idolatry, and even slavery under the Babylonians, and then the Medo-Persians.

As the philosopher Santayana stated, “Those who forget their history are condemned to repeat it.” Everyone talks about a nation’s history or a person’s history, but what about our human history? How many times must we see the catastrophic effects repeated of turning away from God? And even more importantly, how many times must we experience this as individuals? Let’s first return to God in our own hearts, and then as a people, a nation, and our world. The very act of turning to Him will again bring His favor upon us.

Father, help us turn to You, today! Please forgive and heal us of the terrible conditions we have brought upon ourselves by thinking we could make it without You.

Today, I’m worshiping with Jeremy Riddle and “I Want to Know You.”
